About the project
Messiah 250 is a project that celebrates the city of Bath and its people. It explores the history of Bath’s association with Handel’s ‘Messiah’, recreates one of the earliest performances of the work and celebrates the diversity of the city today.
This project will form a major part of the academic course for film students at Bath Spa University. They will document the workshop and rehearsal process, and a large-scale film will be made following the process from workshops to performance.
As part of the 4-month project, Paragon Singers will run a series of singing workshops throughout Bath, including free workshops for young people in the city and, in partnership with charity Julian House, for homeless and vulnerable people living in Bath.
The culmination of Messiah 250 will be a performance in March 2022 alongside Paragon Singers, workshop guests and a professional orchestra. Directed by Thomas Guthrie and conducted by Sarah Latto, this performance will be an audience immersive, concert staging.
